Prom Saturdays in April and May are the busiest nights of the year for every party bus company in Houston, and the large buses go first. If your prom is in that window, booking six to eight weeks out is not being early. It is being on time.

Here is what a prom party bus actually costs once you split it across the group, what parents should verify before paying anyone, and how the night usually runs. The rates below are ours and match our Houston party bus price guide.

What prom costs per person

Prom falls on a Saturday, which carries a five hour minimum. That sounds like a lot until you divide it. A group of twenty in the LoungeS at $100 per hour is $500 for the night, which is $25 each. That is less than the cost of parking and gas across five or six separate cars, and nobody has to drive.

These party bus rental prices assume the bus is close to full. Add 15 to 20 percent gratuity for the chauffeur, and check the invoice first in case it has already been added. Bigger groups get cheaper per head, which is why prom groups tend to combine.

Picking the right size

Count couples, not individuals, and then add the two or three people who always join late. Prom groups grow between booking and the night itself more reliably than any other kind of booking we take.

Book one size up from your count. Formalwear takes more room than regular clothes, dresses need space, and a bus at exact capacity gets uncomfortable quickly once everyone is in it. You can see every vehicle and its capacity on our fleet page.

What parents should check

Most parents paying for this have never hired a party bus before, and it is a reasonable thing to be careful about. Whoever you call, including us, ask for these:

• Proof of insurance and licensing. Ask to see it. A quote well below everyone else usually means something has been skipped, and it is normally the insurance.
• A background checked chauffeur. Ours are licensed and background checked, and the chauffeur stays with the vehicle all night.
• The all in total in writing before any deposit changes hands.
• A card payment for the deposit. Never cash app or wire. If a company does not show up, a card gives you a chargeback and those other methods do not.
• The specific vehicle, not a category. Ask which bus is coming.

On alcohol, we will be direct: passengers under 21 may not drink on our vehicles, and our chauffeurs enforce it. Parents booking for a high school group should expect that, and any company willing to look the other way is telling you something about how it runs the rest of its business.

Some Houston schools also have their own rules about arrival and drop off for chartered transport. Worth a call to the school office before you finalise timings.

How prom night usually runs

A five hour booking normally covers this comfortably:

• Pickup and photos. One or two homes, then a photo spot. Buffalo Bayou and the downtown skyline are the usual choices, and this always takes longer than planned.
• Dinner. The bus waits while you eat. That waiting counts as booked time.
• The venue. Drop off at the dance, and the chauffeur stays or returns at an agreed time.
• Home. Everyone goes back safely, which is the actual reason most parents say yes to this.

If your group wants the bus waiting through the whole dance rather than leaving and coming back, say so at booking. It changes the hours, not the plan.

Why April and May book out first

Prom season overlaps with peak wedding season, and both compete for the same vehicles on the same Saturdays. There are only so many large buses in Houston. Prom Saturdays in April and May price above base for exactly that reason, and the largest buses are the first to go.

If your date is flexible, a Friday prom drops you to a four hour minimum instead of five. If it is not flexible, book early. Groups that call two weeks before an April Saturday are usually choosing from whatever is left rather than what they wanted.
