Kemah is a town of a couple of thousand residents that hosts millions of visitors a year, and that gap explains almost everything about getting a group around here. The city occupies a narrow point of land where Clear Creek empties into Galveston Bay, about 30 miles southeast of downtown Houston, with Highway 146 running straight through the middle of it and over the Kemah-Seabrook Bridge. It started life as a railroad stop called Evergreen and took its present name in 1907 from a Karankawa word meaning facing the winds, which anyone who has stood on the waterfront in a norther will find reasonable. On a Tuesday in February you can park anywhere you like. On a Saturday in June, with the Boardwalk full and the fireworks scheduled, Bay Avenue and Sixth Street are a slow crawl of cars looking for a space that does not exist.
That is the practical case for a party bus out of Kemah, and it has nothing to do with luxury. If your group of fourteen is meeting for somebody’s birthday at the Aquarium Restaurant and then heading to Galveston, you are looking at four vehicles, four parking hunts, four sets of directions and at least one person who gets separated and spends 25 minutes circling the Lighthouse District. One bus solves all of it. Everybody leaves together, everybody arrives together, and nobody has to nominate a driver who watches the rest of the group enjoy the evening.

Kemah is small and its streets show it. The residential side of town, the older grid around Kipp Avenue and Second Street, was laid out long before anyone imagined a coach that seats fifty. Trees hang low, some of the lanes near the water are barely wide enough for two cars to pass, and a few of the marina drives dead end into a gate. We handle that by asking the right questions before we quote, not by sending a bus and hoping. If you are in a spot that will not take a Mega Lounge, we tell you that on the phone and we suggest a meeting point a block away that works, or we put you in a Sprinter Lounge that will fit.
The Boardwalk itself is the other logistical piece. Landry’s runs a tight operation and the parking around it fills from the outside in. Rather than fight for a spot, we drop your group at the entrance and stage the bus in one of the public lots off Bradford Avenue or Sixth Street. When you are ready to move on, you text the chauffeur and he is at the agreed corner in a few minutes. On fireworks nights, on Mardi Gras weekends, and during the big boardwalk festival dates, that arrangement is worth more than anything else we do, because the alternative is walking half a mile to a car in the dark.

Six sizes, priced by the hour. The rate depends on the bus, not on how far you are going inside the metro:
Kemah books smaller than most of our service area, and that is a function of the town. A lot of what happens here is a dinner group, a boat crew coming off the water at Marina Del Sol, or a birthday party that wants the Boardwalk and then somewhere else. The Sprinter Lounge and the LoungeS carry the bulk of it. The Sprinter in particular is the right answer for Kemah’s narrow streets, because it will get into places the full size coaches cannot and it still gives you the LED lighting, the sound system and the bar area.
Where Kemah goes big is weddings and reunions. The waterfront wedding market here is real, and when a couple books the Kemah Boardwalk Inn or one of the marina venues, the guest shuttle is usually a Lounge XL or a Mega Lounge running loops between the hotel and the venue. We also see the Lounge Plus+ used a lot for corporate groups coming down from Houston who want the Boardwalk experience without the parking problem. Kemah is a natural bachelorette town, and it has been for years. The pattern is almost always the same: start at the Boardwalk in daylight, work through dinner at Landry’s Seafood or the Aquarium Restaurant, then decide whether the night stays local or moves. Groups that stay local do the Lighthouse District and the bars along the waterfront. Groups that move go one of two directions, either south to the Strand and the Seawall in Galveston or north into Houston for Washington Avenue and Midtown. A bus makes that decision reversible, because you are not committed to a plan the moment somebody parks a car. Waterfront weddings are Kemah’s other business. Couples book the Boardwalk hotel, the marina clubhouses, or venues just across the water in Seabrook and League City, and then face the problem every Bay Area wedding faces, which is that the guests are scattered across a dozen hotels along the Gulf Freeway and NASA Parkway in Webster and Clear Lake. Shuttling them is not optional, it is the difference between a ceremony that starts on time and one that does not. We run guest shuttles in loops, we run the wedding party separately when the photographs are happening somewhere else, and we stay late for the send off. Ten hour bookings are common. Thirtieth, fortieth, fiftieth, it does not matter, the Kemah version of the milestone birthday tends to involve the Boardwalk and a good dinner and then something else. The something else is where the bus earns its keep. Some groups go up to the Bay Area Boulevard restaurants in Webster, some go to a concert in Houston, some just want to ride around with the sound system up and end at somebody’s house. Because the bar area is yours to stock, the drinks cost what the store charged rather than what a venue charges, which on a group of twenty is a genuinely large number. We do a lot of these. Clear Lake is one of the biggest recreational boating centers in the country and Kemah sits at the mouth of it. When a race finishes or a charter comes in, you have got a crew of twelve to twenty people who have been on the water all day, who are in no condition to drive, and who all want to eat and keep going. That is a party bus job. We pick up at Marina Del Sol, Waterford Harbor and Portofino Harbor, we run the crew to dinner, and we get everybody home. The same applies to the fishing charters running out of the Kemah channel. Nobody who has spent nine hours in the sun should be driving Highway 146 afterward.
From Kemah the drive to the Lake Charles casinos is roughly two and a half to three hours each way depending on how the Beltway and I-10 behave. That is a long day in a car and a very easy day on a bus, because the ride there and back becomes part of the trip instead of the price of it. Everything Houston hosts is 40 to 55 minutes from Kemah on a good run, and parking at every one of those venues is either expensive, far away, or both. Toyota Center, the ballpark downtown, NRG Stadium, Shell Energy Stadium, the amphitheatre in The Woodlands for the bigger tours. A bus drops you at the door and picks you up at the door, and the tailgate happens on board on the way in. We run these constantly out of the Bay Area. Honest drive times, assuming normal conditions and not a Friday at five.
Inside the Bay Area. The Kemah Boardwalk is walking distance from most of the town. Seabrook is five minutes over the bridge, and Old Seabrook plus Tookie’s is a standard stop on a Kemah night out. Clear Lake Shores is two minutes. League City and the South Shore Harbor area are about 12 minutes on FM 518 and Marina Bay Drive. Webster and the Bay Area Boulevard restaurant corridor are 15 minutes up Highway 146 and NASA Parkway. Space Center Houston is around 15 to 20 minutes, and it is a genuinely good group stop earlier in the day before the evening starts.
Galveston. Forty to fifty minutes south on Highway 146 to I-45 and over the causeway. The Strand, the Seawall, Pleasure Pier and the beach bars. This is the single most common out of town run we do from Kemah, and it is the one where a bus matters most, because parking on the Strand on a Saturday night is genuinely miserable and the drive back over the causeway at one in the morning is not one anybody should be doing after a night out.
Downtown and Midtown Houston. Roughly 45 minutes without traffic, closer to an hour and fifteen if you leave at the wrong time on a Friday. Downtown for the ballpark, Toyota Center and the theater district. Midtown for the bar density. Washington Avenue for the same reason. EaDo has picked up a lot of the nightlife in recent years and it is easy to get a bus in and out of.
NRG and the Rodeo. About 45 minutes. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs through late February and March and it is the busiest single stretch of our year. NRG parking during Rodeo is its own kind of ordeal and the bus lane is a genuine advantage. See the rodeo transportation page.
Lake Charles casinos. Two and a quarter to two and three quarter hours east, and Kemah is better placed for this than most of the metro because the route runs north on Highway 146 to Baytown and then straight out on I-10 without ever crossing Houston. Golden Nugget and L’Auberge sit about a mile apart and are the usual targets.
Airports. Hobby is about 30 minutes from Kemah, Bush Intercontinental is about an hour. For a group flying out together, a single bus beats a convoy of rideshares by a wide margin, and it beats airport parking by more.

What actually moves the number is hours and date, not distance. A Kemah night that stays inside the Bay Area, a Boardwalk dinner and a couple of stops, is usually four or five hours. Once Galveston or Houston is involved you are realistically at six or seven, because the round trip alone eats two hours of that and nobody wants to be watching a clock at the fun part. Weddings run eight to ten. Casino runs to Lake Charles are typically booked as a long day rather than by the hour, and we will structure that for you when you call.
Date matters more than most people expect. A Saturday in late April, in the middle of prom and wedding season, prices and books differently from a Thursday in September. New Year’s Eve is its own category. Nothing about that is a surprise fee, it is simply demand, and we tell you what the date costs when you ask rather than after you commit. Split across a group, the arithmetic usually lands well under what the same people would spend on rideshares in both directions, and that is before anyone counts the cost of drinks bought at venue prices instead of stocked on board.
Two more things worth knowing. First, we price match any legitimate written quote from another Houston operator for a comparable bus and comparable hours, so you do not need to play companies off against each other. Second, the quote you get is the quote you pay. Send your date and details through the quote page and you will get a real number back, not a range designed to get you on the phone.
It is deliberately simple.
Step one, tell us the shape of the night. Date, pickup time, how many people, where you are starting and roughly where you want to go. You do not need a finished itinerary. Most groups have a start and an ending and a vague middle, and that is enough for us to size the bus and the hours.
Step two, we quote a flat hourly rate. We will tell you which bus fits, what it costs per hour and how many hours we think you actually need. If we think you are booking too few hours for the plan you have described, we will say so, because running out of time at eleven at night in Galveston is nobody’s idea of a good outcome.
Step three, you lock the date. A deposit holds the vehicle. You get written confirmation with the bus, the rate, the hours and the pickup details on it.
Step four, we confirm before the day. We check the pickup address, the exact stops and any changes. This is where Kemah specifics get sorted out, whether the bus can reach your street, which Boardwalk corner we will use for pickup, whether there is an event on that will close streets. We would much rather have that conversation two days early than at seven in the evening on your street.
Step five, the chauffeur arrives early. Standard practice is to be there ahead of the booked time so loading starts on schedule. Bring your own drinks and your own playlist. The chauffeur handles the driving, the route and the parking, and stays in contact with whoever in your group is running the night.
If anything shifts on the day, and it usually does, you tell the chauffeur. Adding a stop or changing the order is normally fine. Extending past your booked hours depends on whether the bus has another job behind you, so ask early rather than at the end.
Party Bus Lounge is licensed and insured for passenger transport, and the coverage is commercial coverage on every vehicle. This is not the part of the industry that gets talked about at parties, but it is the part that matters if something goes wrong. There are operators working the Houston market with personal policies and no authority, and their prices reflect that. Ours reflect being legitimate.
Our chauffeurs are vetted, background checked and hold the appropriate commercial licensing. They are also, and this is the practical bit, people who have driven these specific routes. A chauffeur who knows that the Boardwalk lots fill from the outside in, or that Highway 146 backs up in a particular way at the bridge on a summer Saturday, is worth a great deal on a night when your reservation is at eight.
On alcohol: Texas law permits passengers 21 and over to drink on a chartered bus when the driver is separated from the passenger cabin, which is how our buses are configured. Party Bus Lounge does not sell alcohol and never has. You stock the bar area yourself, we provide ice and cups. Every passenger who is drinking should have identification on them. Anyone under 21 does not drink, and on school events like prom we run the buses completely dry with no exceptions, which is a condition of taking the booking. The chauffeur has the final call on any of this, and that authority is not negotiable, because it is what keeps the vehicle legal and everyone in it safe.
The buses are cleaned and inspected between bookings. If a vehicle has a mechanical issue before your date we move you to another one rather than cancel, which is one of the advantages of running six sizes instead of one or two.
Kemah is compact enough that you can describe the whole town in a paragraph, but the detail matters when a 40 foot bus is involved.
The commercial heart is the Kemah Boardwalk, sixty acres on the waterfront at the mouth of Clear Creek, opened in 1998 and run by Landry’s. The Boardwalk Bullet wooden coaster is the landmark ride, packed onto a one acre footprint, along with the Boardwalk Tower, the Century Ferris Wheel and a dozen others. The restaurants along it include Landry’s Seafood House, the Aquarium Restaurant with its tank and stingray touch pool, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Saltgrass Steakhouse, Bayside Grille and the Pizza Oven. The Kemah Boardwalk Inn, with balconies over the bay, sits on the same site, and the Boardwalk FantaSea charter yacht docks there. Fireworks go up over Galveston Bay every Friday night through June and July, which is when traffic is at its worst and a bus is worth the most.
Behind and around the Boardwalk is the Lighthouse District, the locally owned shopping and dining area running roughly from Second Street to Ninth Street across Bradford, Kipp and Texas Avenue, with Sixth Street as its center. The landmark it is named for is a genuine curiosity: the blue and white lighthouse on Fifth Street is a working water tower and a navigational beacon at the same time. Off the Boardwalk, T-Bone Tom’s on Highway 146 has been the local steak and barbecue institution for years, and the Sixth Street bars carry a lot of the after-dinner traffic. The older residential grid runs off Bay Avenue and Second Street, with Kipp Avenue and Bradford Avenue as the streets we most often use for staging. Highway 146 splits the city, and the elevated express bridge that now carries through traffic around Kemah and Seabrook, finished in 2024, changed the local pattern noticeably.
On the water side, Marina Del Sol on Twin Oaks Boulevard, Waterford Harbor on Mariners Drive and the Boardwalk marina off Bradford are the pickups we run most, each with its own quirks about vehicle access. Clear Lake Shores, which bills itself the Yachting Capital of Texas, sits immediately across the water and shares Kemah’s zip code, which is why so much online information about this area is filed under the wrong city. Just north over the Kemah-Seabrook Bridge you are into Seabrook and the Lakewood Yacht Club end of Clear Lake. West on FM 518 and Marina Bay Drive takes you into League City.
School-wise, Kemah families are in Clear Creek ISD. LaVace Stewart Elementary on FM 2094 is the only campus inside the city limits, and older students head up to Bayside Intermediate and Clear Falls High School in League City, which is why our prom pickups from Kemah almost always run to venues in League City, Webster or Houston rather than anywhere in Kemah itself. Annual dates that reliably tie up the town include the Christmas boat parade in December, the Mardi Gras weekend with the Yachty Gras boat parade, the Crawfish and Zydeco Festival and the spring wine festival in April, the Blessing of the Fleet sending decorated working boats down the channel in memory of the town’s shrimping years, and every summer Friday with fireworks. Kemah also knows what the bay can do: Hurricane Ike pushed a seventeen foot surge through here in 2008 and took much of the waterfront with it.
Kemah sits about 30 miles southeast of downtown Houston. On a clear evening the run up Highway 146 to the Gulf Freeway and into downtown takes about 45 minutes. Friday afternoons between four and seven are a different story, and I-45 through Webster and Clear Lake can add 20 to 30 minutes. If you are heading into Houston for a concert, a game or Washington Avenue, plan on six or seven once you account for the run up Highway 146 and the Gulf Freeway in both directions. Wedding transport is often eight to ten hours because it covers the ceremony, the photo stops and the reception shuttle.
We do. Marina Del Sol on Twin Oaks Boulevard, Waterford Harbor on Mariners Drive, the Boardwalk marina on Bradford and the streets around the Lighthouse District are all regular pickup points, along with Portofino Harbor and Clear Lake Shores just across the water. Some of the marina drives and older Kemah streets are narrow with low tree cover, so for the largest coaches we sometimes ask the group to meet at a nearby lot instead. We sort that out on the phone before the day, never on the day.
For a normal weekend, two to three weeks is comfortable. For prom season in April and May, for graduation weekends, for New Year’s Eve and for the Saturdays around the Christmas Boat Lane Parade, six to eight weeks is realistic because the Bay Area books itself out early. We run 24 hours a day and we do take same day calls, but the size you want may not be the size that is still free.
Kemah rarely stays inside its own city limits for a whole night, and neither do we. Five minutes over the bridge is Seabrook, where a lot of Kemah nights start or finish. Fifteen minutes up Highway 146 and NASA Parkway is Webster and the Bay Area Boulevard corridor. West on FM 518 is League City, then Friendswood and Dickinson. South on 146 takes you to Texas City and on down to Galveston, which is the single most requested destination from Kemah. Every city we cover is listed on the Houston service areas hub.
