Richmond is the seat of Fort Bend County and one of the few towns in the Houston region with a downtown that was not invented by a developer in the last twenty years. The Brazos River makes a wide curve here, US 90A crosses it on the way into town, and the 1908 courthouse with its dome still runs county business a couple of blocks from Morton Cemetery, where Jane Long and Mirabeau B. Lamar are buried. Morton Street, from the 200 block through the 600, is the real thing. Brick storefronts, a wine bar called Unwine’d tucked down an alley behind 310 Morton, Sandy McGee’s anchoring the restaurant end, and a street the city closes several times a year for festivals like Art in the Bend and the Miracle on Morton Street holiday celebration.
Around that core, Richmond has grown enormously. The city limits hold around 12,000 people but a Richmond mailing address now covers a huge swath of Fort Bend County, from Pecan Grove Plantation and Aliana in the northeast through Long Meadow Farms, Harvest Green and Waterside Estates, down through Veranda, Riverpark, Bonbrook Plantation and Canyon Gate at the Brazos. Rosenberg sits directly against it on the west. The Southwest Freeway, US 59 and 69, runs along the south side, the Grand Parkway loops past on the east, FM 762 heads south toward George Ranch and FM 359 runs north into the farm country where roadside stands still sell okra and peaches on summer Saturdays.

Richmond is two driving problems in one city, and knowing both is the difference between a smooth night and a frustrating one. The first is the historic downtown. Morton Street and the blocks around the courthouse were laid out long before anybody imagined a 40 foot coach, so the street widths are older, the parking is angled against the curb, and the buildings sit right on the sidewalk. A bus fits down Morton, but it needs an agreed place to stop, which is why we set the drop point before the night rather than working it out with your group standing on the curb. On festival dates when the street is closed entirely, we drop a block away and you walk in, which beats anything a car can do because a car will still be looking for parking twenty minutes later.
The second problem is the freeway and the river. US 90A crossing the Brazos funnels a lot of commuter traffic straight into downtown Richmond and there is nowhere for it to go when something stalls on the bridge approach. The Southwest Freeway is fast until the stretch inside Beltway 8, where a Friday evening adds twenty minutes without warning. The Grand Parkway is often the smarter route if your destination is on the west or north side of town rather than downtown, and we make that call based on the night rather than out of habit.
Pickups are usually easy in the master planned communities and occasionally not. The wide boulevards through Aliana, Long Meadow Farms, Veranda and Harvest Green are fine for a full size bus. Some of the newer interior sections have narrow streets, short cul de sacs and residents parked on both sides, and a few sections have gates that want the driver’s name on a list ahead of time. Fort Bend County weddings run large and the venues here are built for it. Safari Texas Ranch on FM 1464 sits on a 44 acre estate with eight ballrooms that handle anywhere from 50 to 1,000 guests, and it has been doing this for over thirty years. George Ranch Historical Park out on FM 762 rents its grounds for weddings and gives you a working historic ranch as a backdrop, with a long rural approach that needs planning. Briscoe Manor and the ranch and garden venues scattered along FM 359 and FM 762 fill out the rest. What they have in common is a guest list spread across hotels in Richmond, Rosenberg and Sugar Land, and a reception that ends late. Richmond and Rosenberg have one of the strongest quinceanera traditions in the Houston region, and the receptions here are properly large. George Ranch High School on FM 762, Foster High School to the northwest, Randle High School on Koeblen Road and Lamar Consolidated, which carries a Rosenberg address but is the nearest campus to the courthouse square. Between them that is thousands of juniors and seniors competing for the same vehicles on the same Saturdays. The Fort Bend County Fair runs nine days from late September into October at the fairgrounds on Highway 36 just outside Rosenberg, with rodeo performances, livestock shows, a barbecue cook off and a carnival. It is a short hop from anywhere in Richmond and a miserable parking situation on the busy nights, which makes it an obvious bus trip. George Ranch Historical Park runs its own calendar across the year, with Texian Market Days in the fall and Christmas in the Park in December drawing crowds out to FM 762. Richmond has genuinely good options close to home now. Morton Street for dinner and a wine bar, Sugar Land Town Square fifteen minutes east, a show at Smart Financial Center or a Space Cowboys game at Constellation Field. And when the group wants the full night, it is 40 to 50 minutes up the Southwest Freeway to Midtown, downtown and Washington Avenue. On hours, Richmond sits in a comfortable middle. Downtown Houston is 40 to 50 minutes each way, which is far enough to matter but not far enough to eat a booking. A local Fort Bend evening around Morton Street and Sugar Land runs comfortably at four hours. A Houston night out is realistically five or six, and most groups take six once they accept they will not be leaving Midtown early. A Galveston day is seven or eight. Wedding shuttle work is quoted against the loop schedule rather than a simple point to point, because the value there is in the number of runs, not the mileage.
Beyond hours, the price moves with bus size, date and total distance. Saturdays cost more than weeknights. Peak periods here are April for prom across four campuses, spring and fall for the wedding calendar at Safari Texas Ranch and the ranch venues, late September and October for the Fort Bend County Fair, December for holiday parties, and New Year’s Eve, which is the hardest large bus date of the year anywhere in the region. Longer routes carry fuel and mileage considerations we put in the quote rather than adding later. One. Tell us the date, the headcount, the Richmond pickup address including the community name, and roughly where you are going. If the destination is a ranch venue or somewhere with a long private approach, name it now so we can check the access before recommending a bus size.
Two. We send the quote and hold the vehicle on a deposit. Nothing is reserved without one, and during prom season or county fair week that is the difference between having a bus and calling around. The itinerary stays open at this point.

Five. We drop where you agreed, across multiple stops if the group is spread between Richmond, Rosenberg and Sugar Land. Check the seats for phones and jackets on the way off.

Lamar, the second president of the Republic. US 90A comes in over the Brazos River and becomes the main street through that older core. FM 762 runs south past Randle High School and George Ranch High School toward George Ranch Historical Park at 10215 FM 762. FM 359 runs north into farm country and toward Fulshear.
Outside the old core, Richmond is a collection of large master planned communities that share the mailing address. Pecan Grove Plantation, wrapped around its country club, is the established one with the mature trees. Aliana covers about 2,300 acres in the northeast corner. Long Meadow Farms, Harvest Green with its working farm, Waterside Estates, Riverpark and Riverpark West, Veranda, Bonbrook Plantation, Canyon Gate at the Brazos, Royal Lakes Estates and Lakes of Bella Terra fill in the rest. The Grand Parkway, State Highway 99, runs down the eastern edge and is genuinely useful for getting to Katy, the Energy Corridor or the airport without going through the middle of Houston.
Rosenberg shares a border on the west and the two towns function as one for most practical purposes, with the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds on Highway 36 sitting between them. Sugar Land is fifteen minutes east and supplies the concert venue, the ball park and a lot of the hotel inventory that Richmond wedding guests end up in. For pickups, the boulevards through the master planned communities are straightforward for a full size coach. The historic downtown blocks and the interior streets of the newest sections are where we will want to agree a drop point rather than bring a 40 foot bus to a doorstep in the dark.
Richmond is about 30 miles from downtown Houston and the drive up US 59 and 69, the Southwest Freeway, runs 40 to 50 minutes on a normal evening. Friday rush pushes it past an hour once you hit the stretch inside Beltway 8, and the Grand Parkway gives you a way around it if your destination is on the north or west side rather than downtown. Coming home late it is a comfortable 35 minutes. That distance means most Richmond groups book five or six hours for a Houston night out rather than the four a closer suburb would need.
